John Coleman

John Coleman      "Wahktageli, Big Soldier"        bronze    34" high

On Thursday, March 25th, Legacy Gallery will present John Coleman in a One-Man show. During this show, John will be introducing the final two sculptures of The Explorer Artists, Bodmer/Catlin Series, "Pachtuwa-Chta, Arikara Warrior" and "Wunnestow, The White Buffalo". John explains, "For my new series, Explorer Artists, Bodmer/Catlin Series, I will be using portraits created in the 1830's of individuals from some of the tribes that Lewis and Clark encountered during their 1804 - 1806 expedition, and some 25 years later, were documented by Bodmer and Catlin. It is not my intention to add or take away from these works, but to use these portraits and extensive historic research to capture sculpturally, the essence of who these men really were; to interpret in my sculptural style a three dimensional portrait that will be a respectful complement to the original paintings." This event will mark the first time that all ten pieces in the series will be on display together.

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona will be hosting the Fifth Annual "Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West" Exhibition & Sale March 26th through May 2nd, 2010. This event brings together 56 of the country’s best women artists to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. The opening reception and sale “Bash ‘n Bid” begins at 4:30 p.m. on March 27th.

"We are very proud of the fact that "Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West", in just four years, has become one of the most important show and sale for women artists in the country," says Mary Ann Igna, interim director of the Museum. "With 56 artists in this year’s show, you would have to travel to at least three other states and to all the other major art towns in the West to see the breadth and depth of what we will have here at one time…and in one place."
