The Kenneth M. Freeman   Legacy Exhibition

   The Booth Western Art Museum, an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, premieres the Kenneth M. Freeman Legacy Exhibition – Artist at Work on January 16, 2010. The exhibition consists of 50 oil paintings and sculptures that feature working cowboys and cowgirls, rodeo heroes, Native American elders and children, mountain men, western landscapes, Buffalo Soldiers and more. The exhibition also highlights a number of educational exhibits that include a re-creation of Ken Freeman’s studio complete with easel and artifacts, a section on Ken Freeman, the illustrator, showcasing a display of book covers and posters including "Fallon" by Louis L’Amour, and a special section on the Buffalo Soldiers.

   The work of two local artists goes on display at the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center when In Bronze and On Canvas - The Art of Mehl Lawson and Jeffrey R. Watts opens on January 16th, 2010. Mehl Lawson’s western sculptures capture the harsh and stirring lives of cowboys and their horses in bronze while Jeffrey R. Watts’ impressionistic paintings and realistic drawings capture striking portraits and the lush landscapes of southern California. The exhibit continues through February 27th. The opening reception on January 16th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. will include a painting demonstration by Jeffrey Watts.
