    This year the galleries in the Scottsdale Arts District are hosting their Small Works Shows on the same evening, Thursday, December 3rd. More than 30 galleries have come together to host their individual Small Works shows featuring everything from traditional fine art, contemporary and abstract art to Native American pottery, glasswork, jewelry, Persian miniatures, artifacts and much more. Each gallery will feature small works created by artists they represent. Paintings are generally 12" x 12" or smaller, but small works means just about any type of artwork small enough to fit in a shopping bag. Beth Lauterbach, Owner of Scottsdale Fine Art explained, "Hosting our show openings on the same evening brings art lovers together for the unique opportunity to see the largest selection of small works in the state. This event is unparalleled in this part of the country."

    The galleries in the Art District of Old Town Scottsdale maintain a reputation as some of the foremost in the country. Scottsdale remains one of the top three markets for artwork in overall sales in the country. Drawing collectors world-wide, nearly every genre of art is available somewhere within the Art District. Most of the biggest names in the American art scene are represented here as well as local, international and up-and-coming artists. Visitors will find that the artwork in the area is priced as much for the beginning collector as for seasoned buyers. Paul Scott Gallery owner Paul Eubanks states, "The galleries are alive and flourishing here in Scottsdale. We thought that by joining together for our Small Works shows this season, it would be a prime opportunity to demonstrate that, despite some recent press regarding a few gallery closures, the District as a whole is thriving. We’re having such great feedback about this event that we plan to make it a tradition."

    All participating galleries are within walking distance. Most of the galleries are on Main Street, Trailside Gallery is located in the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall and several galleries on Marshall Way will also host Small Works shows. Seasonally, the weather in Scottsdale in early December is temperate. Expect to stroll the picturesque area under starry skies. The Arts District maintains a festive atmosphere with sparkly lights strung across the streets and in the trees. All the Main Street galleries will display poinsettias to elevate the festive mood of the holiday season.

   Goodnight Trail Gallery will host "Christmas on the Trail" on Saturday December 5th, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Affordable gifts under the Christmas tree include small paintings and sculptures by the gallery artists, art books and hand crafted leather accessories.  An authentic Chuck Wagon will be parked outside, serving hot coffee and home made chili.
