"Small Works, Great Wonders"
National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
 Oklahoma City, OK
Rock Newcomb

Rock Newcomb       "San Ildefonso Culture"    acrylic     14" x 11"

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum will once again host its annual “Small Works, Great Wonders” Winter Art Sale, November 19th. This one-night art sale will offer works from at least 112 artists, including many who participate in the Prix de West Invitational and others invited especially for this event. As suggested by its name, this show offers smaller works of art, with several paintings that reflect winter scenes. These aspects of the show and its pre-holiday timing are designed to encourage a broader audience for Western art, including beginning collectors. Purchasers can leave with their new art at the conclusion of the event, an aspect that buyers seem to appreciate. Navajo Weavers Marketplace

More than 70 Navajo weavers are expected to gather to show and sell their textiles on Saturday, November 7th during the “Gathering of Weavers: Navajo Weavers Marketplace” at the Heard Museum. The event takes place in the enchanting Central Courtyard from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Book signings, live music, a film, lectures and demonstrations are all part of this second annual event. The Heard Museum is located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

For many Navajo weavers, weaving is not only a source of livelihood, but a way to participate in traditional Navajo culture. Techniques and tools are passed from one generation to the next. Many weavers use wool from their own sheep that they shear, clean and spin by hand. Using natural wool colors, vegetal dyes or brighter commercial yarns, weavers vary their designs and make each rug a unique creation characterized by both beauty and durability. BEAST - The Collected Works of
 John Banovich
John Banovich

“BEAST – The Collected Works of John Banovich” is a 264 page illustration of the life and artwork of wildlife artist John Banovich.  The book traces John and his artistic roots from an early age all the way to his current paintings, exhibitions, honors and awards.  There are 112 reproductions of his paintings, 43 sketches and 73 photographs sharing the life and life’s work of an avid outdoorsman who happens to be an outstanding wildlife artist.  Years of worldwide travel to explore wild animals at close range have allowed John to capture the essence of their habitat and spirit on canvas.  Noted wildlife artist, Guy Coheleach, writes the forward of this book and Jack Hanna, noted wildlife expert and animal lover, pens the prologue.
